Author Felicity Hayes-McCoy invites the reader into her stone house at the end of Ireland’s Dingle Peninsula where candles shine in every window at Christmastime, welcoming the traveller home. The most frequent reader response to Felicity’s 2012 memoir The House on an Irish Hillside has been ‘I didn’t want it to end’. This little book draws readers back to the fire on the hearth, frosty walks on long beaches, and the enchantment of storytelling, music and good company at the most festive time of the year. It’s the perfect virtual Christmas card or stocking filler in which the power of Ireland’s myths and legends meets the power of the internet, and the water for the first cup of tea in the morning is still filtered through heather, black bog and fissured stone, straight from the mountain.

Felicity Hayes-McCoy was born in Dublin, Ireland, where she studied Irish and English language and literature at university before moving to London, England, in the 1970s to train as an actress. Her thirty year career as a writer spans broadcast and digital media, books and music theatre. She and her husband, opera director Wilf Judd, now live and work both in inner city London and at the western end of Ireland’s Dingle Peninsula. In her memoir The House on an Irish Hillside (Hodder & Stoughton 2012) she describes how finding and restoring their Irish house reintroduced her to a place and a way of life that she first fell in love with as a teenager, and to which she’d always known she’d return when the time was right. She is currently working on Enough Is Plenty, a lifestyle book illustrated with her own photographs, which will be published by The Collins Press in 2015.

Christmas at the House on an Irish Hillside edition by Felicity HayesMcCoy Religion Spirituality eBooks

Just finished Christmas at The House on an Irish Hillside. Felicity Hayes-McCoy captures the tremendous natural beauty of the westernmost end of the Dingle Peninsula and shares with the reader her rich experience of living amidst neighbors and friends whose lives are intertwined with that beauty and the history - in living memory and in ancient tales - of a remarkable place on the planet. As she shares legends relating to the places we "see" through her writing, her writer's voice changes, and the reader is immediately transported to another time and scene. Always appreciated are the pronunciation guides she unobtrusively inserts - the colors of her stories come more vividly to life when the reader is not struggling with consonants all lined up in a row! A great curl-up read for a winter 's afternoon.

Loved this, makes me want to visit
I loved reading Felicity's books. She grabs you from page one and keeps you until the end. The only problem I can see is that I never want them to end. Her books leave one waiting for the next one like waiting for Christmas itself. I highly recommend this book.
One of my favorite authors. There are 2 books so far and I have learned so much from them. Easy to read and a fount of entertainment and learning. Can't wait for her other books yet to come out. Fantastic read.
The only thing wrong with this book was it needed to be 10 times as long. I'm gonna have to just read it again! Love it!!
Another winner by Felicity Hayes McCoy. I love her style, it's as if I can sit by the fireside with her, all her characters are wonderful not to mention the photos and her special receipts, thank you for bringing me back to Ireland again and again.
I visited Ireland for the first time in May of 2013. We stayed in a B and B on the rugged and gorgeous coast of Dingle very close to where this house on an Irish hillside sits. It was in this B and B that I picked up a copy of Ms. Hayes-McCoy's first book "House on an Irish Hillside" and ordered my own copy as soon as I got back to USA. Love both of theses books! As my ancestors came from this beautiful part of Ireland I long to hear the stories of how their lives were lived...just every day experiences ...and Felicity Hayes-McCoy does a wonderful job of relating experiences, memories...of Irish life past.
A lovely little bonus Christmas addendum to Felicity Hayes-McCoy's book, "The House on an Irish Hillside," which I suggest everyone read before downloading this to their reading device. When I was much younger most of women's magazines contained short Christmas stories in their December editions and reading these stories in my mother's magazines was one of my favorite things to do during the holiday. Reading "Christmas at the House on an Irish Hillside" gave me that same enjoyment!
